Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Back to CMRI Sisters | CMRI Sisters Newsletter

The Marian Sisters will be praying a novena in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the nine days preceding her feast on December 12. If you have any intentions you would like them to commend during the novena, you are welcome to send them in to the Sisters using the form at the right. (N.B.: A donation is customary but is not obligatory).

In 1531, the Blessed Virgin appeared to an Indian convert named Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. She made a request for a church to be built on the site, but the bishop hesitated and requested a sign. The Lady obeyed and sent her native messenger to the top of the hill in mid-December to gather an assortment of roses for the bishop, wrapping them in his tilma. Upon returning to the bishop, it was found that the tilma was miraculously imprinted with her image. The bishop believed, and the Lady’s request for a church was granted. The basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is now one of the most celebrated places of pilgrimage in America. The miraculous tilma, which was made of poor quality cactus-cloth and should have deteriorated in 20 years, shows no sign of decay 479 years later and still defies all scientific explanations of its origin. Her feast is celebrated on December 12, the day the miracle occurred.

Novena Prayers

“I chose this place and made it holy, in order that my name might be honored, and my eyes and my heart might remain there forever” (2 Para. 7:14).

Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun? As the rainbow giving light in the bright clouds, and as the flower of roses in the days of sprouting? (Canticle 6:9).
Hail Mary...

O God, who has been pleased to bestow upon us unceasing favors by having in a special manner placed us under the protection of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, grant us, Thy humble servants, who rejoice in honoring her today upon earth, the happiness of seeing her face to face in heaven. Amen.
