Return to The Reign of Mary No. 176
The Reign of Mary
No. 176: Letter from the Editor
June 29, 2020
Ss. Peter and Paul
Dear Friends in Our Lady,
Praised be Jesus and Mary. The month of June is a beautiful time of year when we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Not only must we love and honor the Sacred Heart; we must also strive to console Our Lord for the many blasphemies, sacrileges, and outrages committed against His loving Heart. We do this, above all, by our conscientious practice of the Faith, and by offering reparation. By so doing, we not only console Our Lord, but we earn graces for the conversion of sinners, as we pray in the Fatima prayers: “By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.”
Our religious congregation is singularly devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Among other things, we promote the enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the home, as outlined by Fr. Mateo Crawley. This zealous priest, who was cured by a visit to the shrine of the Sacred Heart in Paray-le-Monial, France, in 1907, traveled to Rome to obtain permission to promote the practice of the enthronement of the home. What was his surprise when the Holy Father Pope St. Pius X not only gave permission, but commanded Fr. Mateo to devote his life to the work! In fulfilling this mission he traveled throughout the world, including the United States. Finally, Fr. Mateo passed to his reward on May 4, 1960.
If you have never had the enthronement performed in your home, we encourage you to speak to a priest to have this done. Once done, however, it is most important to live the enthronement, by making your home a sanctuary and by eliminating from it anything that would be offensive to the Sacred Heart. May He reign in our homes, in our lives, and above all, in our hearts!
The month of June is also the month when our religious Sisters have their annual vows ceremony. This year, the ceremony was performed at Mary Immaculate Queen Church in northern Idaho, the cradle of our congregation, since the state of Washington still has onerous stay-home orders in place. We celebrated the golden jubilee of vows of one Sister, a final profession of vows by another, profession of temporary vows by four more Sisters, and the entrance into the novitiate by an additional four young women. Let us thank God for the cooperation of these souls with their vocation and pray daily for an abundance of additional vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.
While this past month was one of joy, it was also a time of sorrow, as our oldest religious Brother was called out of this world on June 1st. Brother Mary Joseph, who celebrated just last year his 50th anniversary of first profession of vows, was zealously devoted to Our Lady of Fatima and her Rosary. In particular, he regularly prayed the 15 decades of the Rosary outside an abortion clinic, praying for an end to this heinous crime. We commend his departed soul to your prayers. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
In the service of Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI (Email)
