The CMRI Sisters will be praying a novena in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the nine days preceding her feast on August 22. This feastday is very dear to the Sisters, not only because it is one of our special devotions, but also because many of us have made our profession of vows on this day.
On May 13. 1917, the Blessed Virgin appeared to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal. During six apparitions on the 13th of each month, she told them that it was the wish of her Divine Son that devotion to her Immaculate Heart be established in the world. She wanted the world to be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. She also revealed that she was the Queen of the Holy Rosary, and desired that peo-ple say the Rosary frequently and fervently.
Pope Pius XII urged Catholics to invoke the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, especially by reciting the Rosary, for the needs of humanity and for world peace. He asked them to consecrate themselves to her Immaculate Heart. In 1945, the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was instituted, to be solemnly celebrated throughout the world. Its object is to promote devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that through her intercession all nations may enjoy peace and religious liberty, and sinners may be converted, and all the faithful may advance in virtue.
Novena Prayer
All the glory of the King’s daughter is within. She is clothed in garments of gold and various colors. In her train virgins will be lead to the King (Ps. 4:14-15).
Glory be to the Father...
Thou art all fair, O Mary, and the stain of original sin is not in thee (Cant. 4:7) Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, thou art the joy of Israel; thou art the honor of our people (Judith 15:10) Thou art the brightness of eternal light and the unspotted mirror of God’s majesty and the image of His goodness (Wis. 7:26).
Hail Mary...
Because thou has acted bravely and thy heart has been valiant, the Lord has strengthened thee and thou wilt be praised forever (Judith 15:11). The Lord gave thee His own power, for through thee He completely overcame our enemies.

O Virgin Mother, remember to speak in our behalf in the presence of God and keep His dis-pleasure from coming upon us. O noblest Queen of the world, Mary ever Virgin, who didst bring forth Christ the Lord, the Savior of all, pray in our name for peace and salvation!

V. Let me praise thee, O holy Virgin.
R. Give me strength against thine enemies.
O Lord, we beg Thee to enkindle our hearts with that divine fire which unceasingly glowed in the Heart of the Virgin Mary. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
