Ever a Virgin
Church Teaching on the Perpetual Virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
Faithful Catholics are fully aware of the Church teaching on the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In fact, many Catholics are shocked to find out that Protestants generally deny this prerogative of our Blessed Lady. They believe that Mary bore other children after the birth of Jesus. Later in this article we will examine and refute the reasons for this assertion of theirs. Let us begin, however, with a review of what the Catholic Church teache....
“As Sheep Not Having a Shepherd”
Sixty Years of Sede Vacante
A Lecture presented at the Fatima Conference on October 11, 2018, by Mario Derksen, M.A.
When Pope Pius XII died on October 9, 1958, no one could have fathomed the calamities that would befall the Church in the years to come. What we have witnessed in the past six decades is unprecedented, and surely if anyone at the time had been told that in just a few short years, the world would see an apparent Catholic Church that has made peace with the errors of the modern world and transformed the Holy Mass into a Protestant worship service, he would not have believed it. If such a one had been told that the so-called Catholic Church of the next few decades would indoctrinate children and adults in Naturalism and the so-called “rights of man” and engage in efforts to seek the truth conjointly with heretics, Jews, Muslims, and heathens, he would have considered such a prediction insane...
Paul VI Soon to Be “Canonized”
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
We all knew the charade of canonizing the infamous Paul VI would arrive eventually. Well, this ceremony is now scheduled to take place in the Vatican on October 14 of this year. Incredible! Giovanni Battista Montini, the man who is most responsible for the destruction of the Faith through the implementation of Vatican II, is now soon to be called “St. Paul VI”!...
The Insanity Continues
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
In his epistle to the Ephesians, St. Paul admonishes the early Christians: “Immorality and every uncleanness … let it not even be named among you, as becomes saints” (5:3). We must ever keep in mind our calling as disciples of Christ to flee every form of immorality and to keep our bodies and minds chaste. Yet, we also cannot deny the reality around us. We cannot pretend that the evils of the world are not there. We must identify them, confront them and while we shun immorality ourselves, let us also do what we can to turn souls away from these evils...
Catholicism in the English Colonies
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
Thus far we have primarily concentrated in this column on the spread of the Faith in North America by Spanish missionaries. What about the Catholic Faith in the original 13 American colonies, which were under the control of England? In this article we will take a look at the early spread of the Faith, against all odds, in the English colonies before the Revolutionary War...
In Season — Out of Season: Following God’s Star in Our Lives
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
My dearly beloved in Christ, today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, which is a very important, high-ranking feast in the Church year. Usually, the Feast of the Epiphany falls on a weekday, and so the faithful are not all present for Mass, because in the United States it is not observed as a holyday of obligation. The observation of Epiphany as a holyday does occur in Canada and in many other countries because of the significance of the feast day...
Servus Mariae: The Necessity of Good Spiritual Reading
by Rev. Fr. Dominic Radecki, CMRI
By nature, we like to learn. From infancy, we begin to experience knowledge and to grow in it. Most of us like to read, and find ourselves reading something of some sort every day. Many people read for information, diversion or relaxation. When sick, bored or lonely, people sometimes turn to some type of reading material, seeking relief and escape from life’s burdens. We read newspapers, magazines, books, scan the internet, etc. Sadly, most of the things we read have a negative impact and leave us sad, frustrated and depressed...
