Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Dear friends in Our Lady,
Praised be Jesus and Mary. Sometimes it seems that the world about us is going completely mad. We have the ever more brazen efforts to change what remains of our Christian culture, the moral decay in society, and indeed the seeming abandonment of common sense. It reminds one of those famous words of G. K. Chesterton: “Common sense is the least common of all senses.” What would that great man say today regarding the attacks upon Christian morality that so affront common decency?
We can find ourselves feeling quite alone in today’s world, taking solace in the words of St. Louis Marie de Montfort’s Friends of the Cross: “The little flock that follows Jesus can speak only of tears, penance, prayer and contempt for worldly things… ‘Be brave,’ they keep saying to each other, ‘be brave, for if God is for us, in us and leading us, who dare be against us? The One Who is dwelling within us is stronger than the one who is in the world.…’”
Yet despite the dire outlook for the future of our society, there are reasons for hope. Just last month a new priest was ordained at our seminary in Omaha. Even one more priest is a great boon in the work for the salvation of souls. In addition, new vocations have been forthcoming, as young men and women answer the call of Our Lord to leave all things and follow Him. Further, we hear frequent news of souls who have been touched by God’s grace, have recognized the fallacy of the Conciliar Church and have embraced the Faith of our Fathers. God’s grace, through Mary’s intercession, is working in secret throughout the world in these dark days.
Let us then cast off discouragement and rejoice in the knowledge and blessings that are ours. If we stay close to Our Blessed Mother and her rosary and remain faithful to the teachings of Holy Mother Church and the commandments of God, what have we to fear? Let us “lift up our hearts” as the liturgy exhorts and continue bravely and confidently on the path to heaven.
One last note: our annual Fatima Conference will take place this year October 12-16. Among other events, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of episcopal consecration of His Excellency, Bishop Mark Pivarunas. We hope to see many of you at Mount St. Michael in October. You can check our website for more details.
