The Reign of Mary

St. Bernardine of Siena
Dear friends in Our Lady,
Praised be Jesus and Mary. This month of May causes great joy to clients of Mary, who vie with one another to do her honor, setting up May shrines in their homes and performing various other devotions to their heavenly mother. We members of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen rejoice to honor Our Lady in our religious houses, churches and schools during this month, and we especially celebrate with great joy the feast of the Queenship of Mary on May 31st.
This feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary was established by Pope Pius XII in 1954. It is this title of Our Lady — Queen of the Universe — that gives the name to our religious congregation. St. Louis Marie de Montfort tells us that the King shares His kingdom with the Queen. If we are loyal subjects of Christ, we must also be loyal servants, even slaves, of Mary, our Queen. Consequently, on the feast of Mary’s Queenship, the religious of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen renew our act of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, as outlined by St. Louis Marie de Montfort.
According to St. Louis, however, it is not enough to consecrate ourselves to Mary’s Immaculate Heart — we must live that consecration. We must enter into the interior spirit of this devotion, whereby we do all our actions by, with, in and for Mary, that we may do them by, with, in and for Jesus, our King. We must love and honor Mary in our hearts and spread devotion to her.
We encourage all our readers likewise to make this act of consecration, and above all, to strive to live it. By imitating Mary’s virtues, we render ourselves pleasing to her divine Son. Let us not forget that the reign of Mary must precede the reign of Christ the King. But Mary’s reign is in the hearts of her children, where she wishes to reign. May she be truly the queen of our hearts and homes, that we may be her instruments in leading others to Christ our King.
In the service of Jesus and Mary
