The “Pan” Miter of Benedict XVI
by Dr. Carl Angermayr
...It was Helmut Fiedlmayer who recognized the image of the shepherd on the catechism and wrote about it very early on. Extremely clear and decisive, he stated: “The international ‘logo’ of the new international catechism used by all the different vernacular editions depicts the horned shepherd god Pan with hisflute....

Sorrow Beyond Description
by Thomas A. Droleskey, Ph.D.
The spirit of Christ, which dictated the Holy Scriptures, and the spirit which animates and guides the Church of Christ, and teaches her all truth, is the same; and therefore in all ages her conduct on this point has been uniformly the same as what the Holy Scripture teaches. She has constantly forbidden her children to hold any communication, in religious matters, with those who separated from her communion; and this she has sometimes done under the most severe penalties....

The Case of Galileo Galilei
by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Lavery, CMRI
Most people have been taught that Galileo was unjustly condemned by the Catholic Church for his scientific views on the solar system, and that this was due to an opposition to and ignorance of science on the part of the Church. Some even say he was tortured and imprisoned. The true facts of the case of Galileo, however, do not in any way support the view that the Catholic Church is opposed to true science...

An Apology, Not an Avowal
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
On April 16th, our local newspaper carried an article reprinted from the Los Angeles Times entitled “We are deeply ashamed.” En route to the United States, Benedict XVI met with reporters and discussed his upcoming trip. Speaking of the sexual abuse scandal, he assured the reporters that steps would be taken to prevent this terrible tragedy from happening again... As might be expected, Benedict received glowing accounts from secular journals. His assurance was received by many with heartfelt conviction that, finally, things would be different. There are several reasons why these souls are sadly mistaken...

Featured Parish: St. Joseph’s Church, Wayne, Michigan
The roots of St. Joseph’s Church go back to April, 1970, when Fr. Denis Chicoine, CMRI, gave a lecture in Detroit on the message of Fatima and the crisis within the Church since Vatican II. Father’s lecture gave hope to a small group of Catholics who wanted to preserve their faith in such troubled times, and he followed up his lecture with biannual visits to provide these souls with the Mass and the sacraments...

The Image of God the Father in the Home
A sermon by Rev. Fr. Casimir Puskorius, CMRI
...I’m going to be a little direct with you fathers today, becuase you need to understand the magnificence of your role, the critical function that you have in your family. What you must do is nothing less than try to replicate the goodness of our heavenly Father in your life. If you do not, you are failing in what you need to do for your family...

The Pilot, the Mission, and the Medal
by Gerald Towler
It was my father who first got me interested in flying. He owned an airplane, and as a small child, I looked forward to sitting on his lap as we flew over the countryside. I received my own private pilot’s license on my 18th birthday, and in the summer of 1959, I talked my dad into letting me take my cousin, Father Jim Johnstone, for a plane ride when he came to visit our Michigan home...

Explanation of the Little Office of the Immaculate Conception: The Holy Hour of Tierce
by Rev. Fr. Dominic Radecki, CMRI
The third part of the Little Office of the Immaculate Conception is called Tierce, meaning the third hour of the day according to the Roman division of time, which is 9:00 a.m. Tierce and the following two sections of the office, Sext andNone, are said during the working hours of the day because the Church wishes us to turn our hearts to God for a short time during our daily duties and activities...

The State of Marriage
by Rev. Fr. Francisco Radecki, CMRI
Catholic families should model themselves after the Holy Family. St. Paul speaks of children as “fellow citizens with the saints, and the domestics of God.” Parents must work together to lead the souls entrusted to them to Heaven by insuring proper instruction, teaching them to pray and to frequent the sacraments. One of the most edifying results of a good marriage is that couples have a lifelong partner who will support and encourage them to keep on the path to Heaven...

Holy Mass: The Fountain of Grace
Excerpts from a Conference Given by Fr. Mateo Crawley-Boevey, SS.CC., to Benedictine Sisters
The great Cardinal Mercier, a saintly man and a great theologian, used to say: “Give me a priest who fully appreciates the gift of his daily Mass, who relishes the Mass at the altar, never rushing, who lives the grace of his Mass, and I say to you, that priest will die one day — not good, not excellent, but a saint to be canonized.” I apply that now to all of you. If you fully realize the doctrine, the theology of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, living, really and truly, the grace of your daily Mass, when you die you will be not simply good, not simply excellent, but worthy of being canonized one day....
