Letter from the Editor

Vol. XXXVIII, No. 130

May 13, 2008
St. Robert Bellarmine
(Our Lady of Fatima)

Dear Readers,

Praised be Jesus and Mary. The month of May once again gladdens us with its beauty. This month, dedicated to our Blessed Mother, was the one chosen by her for her first apparition at Fatima in 1917. To honor Our Lady and to fulfill her requests, many Catholic parishes hold public Rosary processions during the summer months. We highly recommend our readers to attend whatever devotions, processions and ceremonies your parish or mission offers. In addition, we all should have a “May altar” in our homes, in which our Blessed Mother is honored with fresh flowers placed daily before her image and before which the family gathers for the Rosary and Marian devotions.

Certainly, we cannot have too much devotion to Our Blessed Mother — as long as it is a true devotion. Indeed, the great Fr. Faber, in the preface to his translation of the classic True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, by St. Louis Marie de Montfort, has this to say about devotion to her: “If we are to believe the revelations of the saints, God is pressing for a greater, a wider, a stronger, quite another devotion to His Blessed Mother.” Might this not be the reason for our sluggishness in the spiritual life, for our discouragement and weakness under temptation? May this month be for each of us an opportunity to rekindle that love of Our Blessed Mother Mary, which is a sign of Christ’s faithful followers.

In this issue of The Reign of Mary you will find a fascinating feature article on the miter used by Benedict XVI at his inaugural ceremony three years ago. Reading the article and the various articles written by Dr. Thomas Droleskey (cf: www.christorchaos.com) concerning Benedict XVI’s recent visit to this country, one cannot help wonder how so many people still believe that he really is a traditionalist at heart. How clever the devil is; how sad that so many are deceived by his wiles!

In addition to our usual columns, we have added a new one on Catholic family life, entitled “Catholic Home and Hearth.” Today the family is under attack from every angle. It is our hope that these articles will strengthen your resolve to “fight the good fight,” as they educate you on marriage, the raising of children and family life, all based on the teachings of the Church.

We thank all of you for your support for this magazine. Please do what you can to promote it to others, for the reading of good Catholic material is a must, as we strive to persevere in our faith. May we all live in such a manner as to deserve to be called children of Mary!
